Martin Hoyos is from Bogotá, Colombia, and started playing golf when he was 12 old at San Andres Golf Club. He represented Colombia in multiple international events before finishing high school.
Martin played at Wichita State University for four years under a golf scholarship where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, member of Dean’s honor roll and Athletics honor roll every semester. After college he turned pro and began working at the University’s golf course as an assistant pro, before returning to Colombia to compete in both the local and Latin American tours.
As a player, Martin enjoyed success from the start, winning the Colombian Q-school in 2007 and then winning again his first pro event on his home soil later that year. During his competitive career he won 8 events, was a member of the Latin American Tour and entered in numerous events around the world.
Background: After competing for over 7 years at pro level and with a couple of injuries slowing his progress, Martin pursued his other passion in teaching. With already some experience as an Assistant Pro, he started working as a Director of Golf at San Andres Golf Club, the place where his golfing career started. He oversaw the complete golf operation there and also taught the members and elite players. He was there for over two years before going independent to teach only elite players.
His players have earned wins on different local and international events, and also will pursue scholarships in college. Right before coming to Bishops Gate La Loma, two of his students were ranked as the #1 amateur and the #1 junior amateur in Colombia.
